Five Major Taboos of Breastfeeding

1.Only feed one side

Some mothers prefer to only breastfeed from one side at a time and then the other side next time. This not only reduces breast stimulation but also makes it easier for fluid to decrease, which can also cause uneven breast size.

It is recommended to alternate feeding on both sides, each side for 15-20 minutes, ensuring the baby gets both breasts and consuming balanced nutrition.

2.Breastfeeding After Intense Exercise

After exercise, especially intense workouts, the body releases lactic acid into breast milk. Some babies may dislike the slightly sour taste of milk, causing them to resist feeding.

It's recommended to rest for half an hour after exercising before breastfeeding! Alternatively, choose gentle exercises like brisk walking or yoga, which are also highly beneficial for postpartum body shaping.

3.Entertaining the baby while breastfeeding

When the baby is amused while feeding, it not only distracts them from focusing on drinking milk but also makes it easy for milk to be inhaled into the trachea. This can cause choking in mild cases or aspiration pneumonia in severe cases. This is no joke.

Focusing on drinking milk is also part of cultivating a baby's attention span. It is recommended to find a quiet place for feeding to allow the baby to concentrate on drinking milk.

4.Overfeeding

This situation is more common in babies who are combination-fed or formula-fed, as milk flows from the nipple whenever the baby sucks. Breastfed babies, once full, often continue to suckle the nipple playfully.

Breastfeeding mothers should observe this behavior closely. It is recommended to remove the nipple after the baby has finished feeding and avoid continuing to feed.

5.Save Breast Milk

Some mothers feel that their milk supply is low and wait four to five hours for their breasts to swell before feeding. Gradually, this waiting time extends to five to six hours or six to seven hours until "natural lactation" resumes

The longer the interval between breastfeeding sessions, the less stimulation there is for sucking. When there is a need to increase milk supply, more stimulation is required!
